Wayne Township Landfill

Client: Wayne Township Landfill
Location: McElhatten, PA

The Wayne Township Landfill’s commitment to reducing, reusing and recycling was a big factor in developing the new administrative building.  It was important to the client to provide as many sustainable elements as possible that had a relatively short payback.  During the design process we had to develop various renderings and images to present to the public.  The public was concerned this building would be too far off the ground, so the images we provided we were able to minimize concern before construction even started.

We incorporated many sustainable aspects within this project.  Many of these items were researched and developed as the design progressed.  The unique shape of the building was created as a flattened ‘V’ with a central knuckle for two reasons.  The first reason was to minimize the feel of the long central corridor.  The second was more scientific which incorporated specific angles to take advantage of the sun angles and shading and solar gain.
